An update on our environmental work
In the summer we started a month-long environmental project in Churton to slow the flow of water on the Aldford Brook in low-lying wet areas.
It involved clearing existing ponds and creating new ones, widening our field margins and reprofiling ditches to reduce flood risk.
We also created a number of new scrapes, a type of shallow pond less than a metre in depth and specially made to hold seasonal rain or flood water.
It’s amazing to see the results of the work just a few months on.
The pictures below show the results of our work in August and how they look now. The ponds and scrapes are filled, and we’ve planted AB8 flower-rich grass margins to provide important habitat and foraging sites for invertebrates, including wild pollinators such as bumblebees, solitary bees,
The work is all part of our long-term environmental commitment to enhance the estate, to engage in responsible farming and to nurture wildlife.
