Work underway on the Aldford Brook
We have begun a huge but exciting project at Churton Hall called EMAB - Environmental Measures on the Aldford Brook.
This will involve support from Cheshire Wildlife Trust and Welsh Dee Trust who will be delivering the wetland and woodland habitat creation.
This month long job will see many thousands of tons of soil being moved in and around low lying wet areas to ‘slow the flow’.
This will be achieved by re-profiling ditches, clearing existing ponds and creating new ponds as well as creating scrapes and widening field margins to act as run off sponges. This will benefit a range of species but in particular aquatic life, and wading birds.
Once the earthworks are completed, the brushwood bundles will be used to be used to narrow low flow channel and trap fine sediment. This is a low carbon solution that will allow biodiversity to re-establish whilst at the same time slowing the flow.
