Barnston Estate business community to hold Summer Social
The Farndon business community at Top Farm in the village is teaming up to put on its first ever Summer Social.
The group of a dozen independent businesses that make up Top Farm are organising the event to showcase what they do. It will bring together businesses which include beauty and hair to food, flowers, gifting, interiors and homeware.
Members of the public are invited to come along to their Summer Social event on Sunday May 4th between 2pm-4pm.
As well as live music, there will be a barbecue, pizza, beer, wine and soft drinks – all in Top Farm Courtyard just off the High Street in Farndon.
Helen Knox, founder of interior designers Lewis Knox, said: “We love being at Top Farm in Farndon. We moved in four years ago and it's been great to see like-minded businesses being based here too.
“We thought it was about time we celebrated the special businesses we have here and welcomed the community in, as the village is such a great place to work, live and socialise in.”
Newlyweds Anna Roseblade and Felix Shore moved to Top Farm in September last year to open Restaurant209.
Anna said: “We love being a part of Top Farm and the surrounding barns. It’s amazing to see so many different, creative and flourishing businesses.
“It’s great how supportive everyone is of each other and how, no matter what, we’re all rooting for each other to do and be the best we can be.
“That’s why we are opening up the farm courtyard to the local community, so we can show them all how much Top Farm has to offer. We’re looking forward to welcoming people we know and lots of new faces.”
Julie Carmichael, founder of Velvet Peony, moved her floristry business to Top Farm this month.
She said: “We are thrilled to have moved to Top Farm and we’re looking forward to showing our Summer Social guests around.”
Sarah Cross, co-founder of make-up brand CODE Beautiful, said: “Top Farm is home to an incredible community of independent businesses, each bringing something unique to the area.
“This event will celebrate local talent, connect with the local community and showcase the creativity and passion that makes this place so special. It’s the perfect opportunity to support local and see what’s happening right on your doorstep.”
Charlene of Charlene Baker Permanent Make Up & Aesthetics, said: “This is a wonderful environment to grow a successful business and there’s a really great supportive community.”
Top Farm, which is part of the historic Barnston Estate, is a Grade II listed building with outbuildings converted from a 17th century dairy farm in the heart of the village.
Estate Manager Ed Barnston said: “We’re delighted to have such a thriving business community and rural economy at Top Farm in Farndon and the Summer Social will be a wonderful opportunity for new and existing customers and members of the local community to help them celebrate what has been created.”
Adrian Waddelove, Borough Councillor for Farndon Ward, said: “The Top Farm business community serves to highlight the extraordinary range and diversity of companies we have right across Farndon. And the Summer Social is a great chance for local residents to come together to celebrate our thriving local rural economy.”
