Growing for the future - new tree planting on the Estate
We have been busy across the Estate this month, continuing our commitment to restoring and enhancing the natural landscape with a new tree planting project.
We have planted a corridor of 4,290 trees along the River Dee creating 14 acres of new woodland with several key goals in mind:
- Flood Mitigation: Tree roots help to stabilise soil and improve water absorption, reducing the risk of flooding along the river.
- Natural Windbreaks: Strategically planted trees will provide shelter for surrounding land, protecting crops and wildlife from strong winds.
- Boosting Biodiversity: A diverse mix of native species creates habitats for birds, insects, and other wildlife, strengthening the local ecosystem.
We have selected a range of native trees suited to the riverside environment including Alder, Aspen, Black Poplar, Hawthorn, Hazel, Oak and Willow. Each species brings it own unique benefits, from improving soil health and supporting pollinators to providing food and shelter for wildlife.
This latest planting builds on the thousands of trees we established alongside the river last March. Together, these efforts are forming a continuous green corridor that will mature over the coming years into a thriving, dynamic habitat.
Tree planting is an investment in the future and we look forward to watching this woodland grow and to sharing its progress in the months and years ahead.
